Making Dong Nai a livable city
On the morning of April 24, the 16th National Assembly passed a Resolution on the establishment of Dong Nai city and officially took effect from April 30, 2026.
According to the National Assembly's Resolution, Dong Nai city was established on the basis of the status quo of 12,737.18km2 of natural area, a population scale of 4,491,408 people and 95 commune-level administrative units of Dong Nai province.

Talking to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Prof. Dr. Vo Xuan Vinh - Director of the Institute of Business Research (Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics) - expects Dong Nai to soon become a commercial - service - logistics city thanks to the position and advantage of Dong Nai having both rivers, roads, and air.
According to Prof. Dr. Vo Xuan Vinh, Dong Nai city is not simply limited to the administrative unit of Dong Nai today (including Dong Nai and Binh Phuoc before), but the scale will be wider, the authority, position, stature, and potential will be greater and will be located in the ecosystem of the entire Southern region.
After becoming a city, to make Dong Nai a livable city with civilized and modern development, with good quality of life and high level of people's enjoyment, Dong Nai still has a lot of work to do.
Long Thanh International Airport (Long Thanh airport) is a driving force for Dong Nai's development, infrastructure connection development will create opportunities for logistics, commercial services, financial centers, and non-tariff transaction centers.

Dong Nai is located at the gateway to the Southeast region, a destination to welcome the Central Highlands region... is a favorable advantage for Dong Nai to develop services - logistics, smart logistics, and high value-added service products. Dong Nai also has potential to develop tourism industries. With Long Thanh airport, Dong Nai will be an airport city with non-tariff commercial services, financial services...
Another advantage of Dong Nai is smart agriculture, green agriculture thanks to its leading position in the Central Highlands region...

To prepare for those opportunities, Dong Nai needs to receive investment from the State, and at the same time encourage and call on foreign and domestic investors to participate in building commercial centers, logistics centers, service centers... creating high growth for Dong Nai.
The two biggest issues of Dong Nai that need to be prioritized and focused on solving in the coming time are infrastructure and human resource quality, Prof. Dr. Vo Xuan Vinh assessed.
Dong Nai becomes a new growth pole, with strong spillover effects
The development orientation of Dong Nai city after establishment will build Dong Nai into a strategic gateway city, a multi-functional growth pole, a center connecting southern economic regions in aviation - high-tech industry - logistics - border trade - high-tech agriculture - innovation with the characteristics of an "airport city" as a strategic lever, connecting globally, developing on par with major airport cities in the region and internationally.

Accordingly, in 2026, Dong Nai will focus on investing in a synchronous and modern connecting transport infrastructure system; building and putting into operation dynamic sub-zones, framework infrastructure and key functions, as a basis for shaping and developing Long Thanh airport urban area.
Mr. Nguyen Kim Long - Standing Vice Chairman of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee - said that with the special advantages of Long Thanh International Airport, along with the system of expressways, beltways, seaports, industrial parks, logistics centers and modern urban areas gradually forming synchronously, Dong Nai has full conditions to become a new growth pole, with strong spillover effects, capable of sharing development pressure with Ho Chi Minh City and expanding the development amplitude for the entire Southern region.
