Speaking with Lao Dong on the morning of December 19, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hung - Secretary of the Party Committee of Dai Mach commune (Dong Anh district, Hanoi) - said that the subject CVH (born in 1973) used to live in Dai Dong village, Dai Mach commune.
"The subject is not a native of this area, and the local authorities do not yet know his occupation," said Mr. Hung.
Mr. Hung said that local authorities are continuing to verify and clarify the period of time the subject has lived in the area as well as his hometown and permanent residence.
"People in the commune were shocked when they heard the news, even those from Dai Mach hometown who were working far away called to ask about the incident" - Mr. Hung said.
As Lao Dong reported, C.V.H was identified as the person who set fire, causing 11 deaths, at a house running a coffee shop (address 258 Pham Van Dong, Co Nhue 2 ward, Bac Tu Liem district, Hanoi) on the night of December 18 and early morning of December 19.
The subject was arrested more than 1 hour after committing the crime.
According to Hanoi City Police, H has two previous convictions for "Robbery" and "Theft of property".
At the police station, C.V.H initially confessed that he went to the above bar to drink beer and then had a conflict with the bar staff.
After that, H went to buy gasoline and poured it on the first floor of the coffee shop (where there were many motorbikes) and set it on fire. When he saw the fire, H left.
On the morning of December 19, the Investigation Police Agency, Hanoi City Police Department issued a decision to prosecute the case of "Murder" and prosecute the accused C.V.H to investigate and handle the act of burning down a coffee shop that caused many deaths in Bac Tu Liem district.
The incident is being investigated and clarified by the authorities.
