Proactively take people out of dangerous areas
In the early days of heavy rain, the worry of landslides is present in the highland communes of Lao Cai. With strongly divided terrain, many residential areas located close to the positive taluy or along streams, just a prolonged rain can directly threaten people's lives.
In Ta Xi Lang commune, the work of reviewing households located in landslide-prone areas is carried out regularly. Local authorities not only assess the level of risk but also proactively grasp the thoughts and aspirations of each household to develop appropriate relocation plans.
Mr. Mua A Sung - Vice Chairman of Ta Xi Lang Commune People's Committee - said that the locality is mobilizing households that must be urgently relocated. The goal is not to let people stay in dangerous areas when natural disasters occur.
In Hanh Phuc commune, which regularly faces the risk of flash floods and landslides due to steep terrain and weak soil, population arrangement has brought clear results.

By the end of 2025, the locality will complete the relocation of 51 households in San Tra, Khao Chu, Ta Xua, Ta Chu, Ban Cong and Luu 1 villages to a safer new residence.
Among these, 33 households are arranged interspersed in existing residential areas, 18 households are moved to the concentrated resettlement area in San Tra village.
To continue protecting people from high-risk areas, Hanh Phuc commune is planning to invest in additional resettlement areas in Khao De, Hang Tho and Suoi Giao with a total cost of about 20 billion VND, meeting the conditions to arrange safe accommodation for more than 100 households.

In Pung Luong commune, more than 50 households are still living in areas at high risk of landslides. Every time storms and floods appear, local shock teams are always ready, quickly supporting people to relocate people and property to safe places.
Mr. Le Xuan Dung - Head of the Economic Department of Pung Luong commune - said that the locality has included two resettlement projects in the plan to implement the National Target Program to relocate households from landslide-prone areas, implemented from this year and continuing in the coming years.
