According to Lao Cai Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, due to the influence of the southern edge of the low pressure trough with axis of about 23-26 degrees North latitude being compressed and gradually moving southward, combined with the convergence of winds from above to an altitude of about 5,000m operating strongly, the weather in the province from this evening has many complicated developments.
It is forecasted that localities will experience scattered showers and thunderstorms, with locally moderate to heavy rain. Common rainfall from 10-30mm in 24 hours, some places may exceed 70mm.
The meteorological agency warns that thunderstorms are likely to occur with tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind. The level of natural disaster risk due to tornadoes, lightning and hail is determined to be level 1.
Thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds can break down trees, blow off roofs, and damage civil works, transportation, and infrastructure.
In addition, localized heavy rain increases the risk of flooding in low-lying areas, urban areas and industrial parks; and at the same time, there is a potential risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams and landslides in hilly and steep areas.
People need to proactively follow weather forecasts and warnings; limit outdoor activities when there are thunderstorms, and at the same time pay attention to ensuring safety when participating in traffic because visibility may decrease sharply during heavy rain.
