Lao Cai - The province requests to remove bottlenecks to increase sand and stone sources to serve large projects.

On August 13, information from the People's Committee of Lao Cai province said that the province is focusing on removing difficulties for groups II and III mineral exploitation and processing enterprises and ensuring raw material sources for projects.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, Lao Cai has 35 valid white marble mining licenses, with a total capacity of about 2.49 million m3 of sawn stone and more than 15.83 million tons of powdered stone per year.

Of which, 23 mines are operating, 9 mines are temporarily suspended and 3 mines are not yet operating.

The whole province also has 84 mineral exploitation licenses for ordinary construction materials, including 41 stone exploitation licenses, 36 sand and gravel licenses and 7 clay licenses for brick making.

In the period 2026-2030, the demand for ordinary building materials is expected to be about 44.71 million m3. However, new construction sand meets 21-27% of the demand, and construction stone meets 44-51%.

Many mining projects have not reached capacity or have to be temporarily suspended due to land problems, site clearance, land lease, change of forest use purpose and waste disposal locations.

According to Vice Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Sinh, businesses need to urgently review and summarize difficulties and obstacles and send recommendations to the Provincial People's Committee through the Department of Agriculture and Environment.

Departments, branches, and localities are assigned to handle and remove each content according to their authority, especially regarding land, site clearance, exploitation procedures and capacity increase, thereby ensuring material sources for large projects in the area.

Lao Cai provincial leaders also requested businesses to strictly comply with regulations on mineral exploitation, environmental protection and waste disposal.
