Quang Tri - Many spillways in mountainous areas are deeply flooded, border guards set up checkpoints, warning people not to cross.

On August 9, the Quang Tri Provincial Civil Defense Command said that heavy rain continues to cause flooding of many underground spillways in mountainous and border communes, making it impossible for people and vehicles to pass through.

In Huong Phung commune, 3 spillway points in Doa Ma Lai, A Roong and the Phung Lam - Doa Ma Lai slope area are flooded about 0.5-0.8m. Faced with this situation, Huong Phung Border Guard Station deployed 12 officers and soldiers to coordinate with the Military Command of the commune to place warning signs, set up checkpoints in dangerous areas, and propagate to people not to arbitrarily pass through deep flooded areas.

In Lao Bao commune, 3 underground points are flooded from 1-1.2m, including the spillway point across Ka Tang stream in Group 3, Ka Tang village; spillway bridge in the area of the old Khe Da village welcome gate, now belonging to Ka Tang village; spillway bridge across A Chum stream in the old Ha Let village, now belonging to Tan Thanh village. People and vehicles currently cannot travel through these points.

Lao Bao International Border Gate Border Guard Station maintains 10 officers and soldiers in one car, coordinates with local authorities and forces to be on duty, ready to respond if the water continues to rise.

In Tan Lap commune, 6 underground points are flooded about 0.3-0.5m, people and vehicles cannot pass through. The flooded points are located in Con Cheng village; Trung Son village; Thuan Tai village; Ta Xia village and 2 spillway points Cu Dun, Ta Roa belonging to Huong Loc village.

In Lia commune, 3 spillway points Ky Tang, Thanh O and A Xoc Lia are also flooded about 0.3-0.5m, causing localized traffic disruption.

Previously, moderate to heavy rain appeared in the above communes, with common rainfall of 100-150mm. The water level of the Se Pon River rose by about 1.5m, causing flooding in some areas, affecting people's travel.

The Steering Committee for Civil Defense, Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue of the Quang Tri Provincial Border Guard continues to monitor the developments of rain and floods, maintain forces in key areas and prepare response plans when situations arise.

According to the Quang Tri Provincial Civil Defense Command, in the next 6 hours, the mountainous communes will continue to have rain, the accumulated rainfall is commonly 10-30mm, in some places over 50mm.

Functional agencies warn of the risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams in mountainous areas; landslides and subsidence in A Doi, Ba Long, Dakrong, Huong Hiep, Huong Lap, Huong Phung, Khe Sanh, La Lay, Lao Bao, Lia, Ta Rut and Tan Lap communes.
