According to the Hai Phong Inland Waterway Port Authority, on the morning of June 14, Representatives of Port Authority Region I, under the Hai Phong Inland Waterway Port Authority, after checking the safety conditions of vehicles and crew members, issued leave permits for passenger ships to visit Lan Ha Bay from Ben Beo, including: Ship HP 5665 carrying 31 Vietnamese passengers, 3 crew members and ship HP 3847 carrying 10 passengers, 1 crew member.
At 9:15 am on the same day, Representatives of Port Authority Region I, under Hai Phong Inland Waterway Port Authority received information reporting a collision at 9:05 am between passenger ship HP 5665 and passenger ship HP 3847 when the two ships were traveling parallel to each other in the Van Boi estuary area on Lan Ha Bay, leading to the sinking of ship HP 3847.
All 10 passengers and 1 crew member on vessel HP 3847 were rescued by boats operating near that area and vessel HP 5665. Among these 10 passengers was Ms. N.T. N (born in 1983) who was injured and taken to Cat Hai Special Economic Zone medical center for emergency treatment, but Ms. N died at 9:35 am on the same day.
Through inspection on the basis of vehicle inspection data: Ship HP5665 has an ATKT&BVMT inspection certificate valid until October 15, 2027; ship HP3847 has an ATKT&BVMT inspection certificate valid until October 14, 2026.
According to a video clip recording the time of the shipwreck rescue, nearby tourist boats continuously threw lifebuoys down. Many ships, boats, and canoes nearby also quickly arrived to coordinate rescue.
Currently, the collision between the two vehicles is being investigated and clarified by functional forces.
