On March 4, Nhat Le Border Guard Station (Quang Tri province) said that the ship capsizing at Nhat Le estuary killed 1 person.
According to initial reports, at 6:18 am on the same day, fishing vessel numbered QB 11288-TS with 7 crew members, captained by Mr. Dao Duy Sang (born 1974, residing in Ha Duong TDP, Dong Hoi ward, Quang Tri province), was completing procedures for departure at Nhat Le Border Guard Station. The vessel is 14.9m long, operating as a trap fishing vessel.
When moving to the estuary area, the ship ran aground in conditions of big waves and strong winds. At about 6:50 am, the ship was sunk by waves at a location about 100m north of My Canh shore.
At the time of the incident, 7 crew members on the ship wore life jackets and swam ashore. Among them, 5 people were safe, 2 crew members swam ashore in a state of exhaustion and weak health, so they were taken to the Vietnam - Cuba Dong Hoi Friendship Hospital for emergency treatment.
According to information from the family, among the crew members taken to the emergency room was Mr. T.B. L (born in 2007, residing in Ha Duong residential group, Dong Hoi ward, Quang Tri province). Due to his too weak health, the victim died after being rescued and the body was taken to his family for funeral arrangements.
Currently, 1 crew member is still being treated at the hospital.
Nhat Le Border Guard Station sent 2 working groups with 8 officers and soldiers to visit and encourage the victim's family and grasp the situation to report to superiors.
Previously, as Lao Dong Newspaper reported, on the morning of the same day, the fishing boat encountered an accident at Nhat Le estuary while en route to sea for fishing.
