The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced the holiday schedule for the Hung Kings Commemoration Day and holidays on April 30 - May 1 for officials, civil servants, public employees and workers. Specifically:
Hung Kings Commemoration Day: 3-day holiday
In 2026, the Hung Kings Commemoration Day falls on Sunday (April 26th of the solar calendar). Due to coinciding with the weekend holiday, workers have compensatory leave on Monday (April 27th). Including the 2 weekend days, the Hung Kings Commemoration Day holiday lasts 3 days, from Saturday, April 25th to the end of Monday, April 27th.
April 30 and May 1: 4-day holiday
The two major holidays of April 30 and May 1 of 2026 fall on Thursdays and Fridays. For workers who do not have to work Saturdays, the holiday lasts 4 consecutive days, from April 30 to the end of May 3 (including both weekends).
A noteworthy point is that these two holidays are quite close. Workers who have just finished the Hung Kings Commemoration holiday will go back to work for 2 days and then have another holiday on April 30.
Therefore, people who plan to travel far can consider taking leave during this period.
According to Article 113 of the Labor Code, the annual leave schedule is decided by the employer after consulting the employee's opinion and must be notified in advance. Employees can agree to take leave several times or combine leave for a maximum of 3 years at a time.
Therefore, if there are still annual leave days or businesses allow advance leave, employees can completely apply for additional leave before April 30 - May 1 to extend the holiday while still receiving full salary.
The two parties can also agree on unpaid leave under Article 115. However, if the company's internal labor regulations stipulate not allowing leave on the day immediately preceding the holiday, employees must comply. The approval of leave is still based on the principle of agreement between the two parties and in accordance with the company's internal regulations.
