On the evening of March 3, Mr. Le Van Thao - Vice Chairman of Ba Vi Commune People's Committee said that at about 4:15 pm, thunderstorms developed strongly in Ba Vi commune, then formed a whirlwind area sweeping through Ba Lang, Nuoc Lay and Ta Noat villages. The tornado lasted for about 30 minutes, causing people living and producing to be caught off guard.

Strong winds caused a series of stilt houses, level-4 tiled houses, and corrugated iron roof houses to have their roofs blown off; tiles and corrugated iron flew down, causing furniture in the house to fall. After the tornado, heavy rain continued for about an hour, many houses were cluttered in flooded water.
According to Ba Vi Commune People's Committee, there are 116 houses with roofs blown off and damaged. Among them, Ba Lang village has 76 houses with roofs blown off 30-50%; Nuoc Lay village has 29 houses with roofs blown off 30-50% and 3 houses completely damaged; Ta Noat village has 8 houses affected. Some rural roads have fallen trees blocking the way, and fallen power poles cause local interruptions.
Mr. Thanh Minh Thuan, Chairman of Ba Vi Commune People's Committee, said that the locality has mobilized police, military, and militia to support people to re-roof, clear fallen trees, and coordinate with the electricity sector to overcome the incident. By the evening of the same day, the situation was basically stable. However, the government is concerned that heavy rain may increase the risk of landslides in hilly and weak soil areas.

The commune proposed to higher levels to support housing repair costs; provide essential goods and construction materials for severely damaged households, especially poor and near-poor households, policy families; and at the same time support seedlings and supplies to restore production and repair electricity and transportation infrastructure.
Ba Vi is a mountainous commune, the lives of people are still difficult, formerly belonging to Ba To district, with the majority of the population being H'Re people.
