Due to the impact of heavy rain lasting for many hours, from the early morning of August 1, floods in Xa Dung, Na Son, Muong Luan communes (Dien Bien province) have become very complicated.
Heavy rainfall that fell over the course of several hours caused water from streams to suddenly rise, causing severe flash floods and landslides.
On the morning of August 1, in a quick exchange with Lao Dong, Mr. Tran Duc Trong - Vice Chairman of Na Son Commune People's Committee - said that the rain on the night of July 31 and early morning of August 1 caused flash floods and landslides in many locations in the commune.
"Up to now, we have not recorded any human casualties, however, the damage to the people's property is large and the landslides are still continuing" - Mr. Trong informed.
According to Mr. Trong, the commune government is urgently implementing the "4 on-site" motto, mobilizing maximum militia and police forces, coordinating with military units stationed in the area to approach isolated areas, provide relief and support people to overcome the consequences.
According to records, in Suoi Lu village, Na Son commune, floods have directly affected many houses. According to local residents, the floodwaters quickly overflowed overnight, sweeping away all assets, livestock, poultry, etc.




Currently, in Dien Bien province, rain is still continuing, many areas are at high risk of landslides and continue to be isolated.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the past 6 hours (from 9:00 p.m. on July 31 to 3:00 a.m. on August 1), Dien Bien province had moderate rain, heavy rain to very heavy rain like Phu Nhi 97mm.
Soil moisture models show that some areas are nearly saturated (over 85%) or have reached a saturated state.




In the next 6 hours, there is a risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes in many communes/wards: Muong Luan, Na Son, Pu Nhi, Tias Dinh, Xa Dung, Cha To, Muong Cha, Muong Nha, Muong Phang, Muong Toong, Na Bung, Na Hi, Na Tau, Nam Ke, Nu Ngam, P. Dien Bien Phu, Muong Thanh, Phinh Giang, Quang Lam, Sam Mon, Sin Chai, Thanh An, Thanh Nua, Thanh Yen, Tua Thang.
