According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper on the morning of July 25, many locations on National Highway 12 were flooded with soil and rocks from the embankment with a large volume, endangering people and vehicles participating in traffic.
At Km113+240 and Km119+500 (Muong Tung commune), landslides occurred, causing complete traffic jams. At Km119+500 alone, the large amount of landslides, stretching for tens of meters, prevented vehicles from moving, and caused traffic to flow along the old road.

Another particularly serious landslide was recorded at Km125+500 on the old National Highway 12, in Na Sang commune. Soil and rocks have flooded down, burying almost the entire road surface.
At noon on July 25, speaking with Lao Dong, a representative of Road Joint Stock Company 226 (the road management unit) said that immediately after receiving the information, the company immediately implemented remedial measures. The landslides were mainly concentrated in the communes of Na Sang and Muong Tung.

"With safe locations, the company has focused on machinery to clear the road in the fastest time. At points with potential risks of traffic safety, the unit has arranged people to be on duty, operate, and warn to ensure absolute safety for people" - a representative of Road Joint Stock Company 226 added.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the past 12 hours (from 10:00 p.m. on July 24 to 10:00 a.m. on July 25), Dien Bien province has had moderate rain, heavy rain, and some places with very heavy rain such as Muong Tung 167.2mm. Soil moisture models show that some areas are nearly saturated (over 85%) or have reached a saturated state.

In the next 6 hours, there is a risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes in many communes/wards: Muong Tung, Muong Lay, Bung Lao, Cha To, Chieng Sinh, Muong Cha, Muong Lan, Na Sang, Na Tau, Nam Nen, Pa Ham, Pu Nhung, Sang Nhe, Si Pa Phin.
