According to the bulletin of Thanh Hoa Provincial Hydrometeorological Station broadcast at 9:00 am on September 17, the flood water level on the central and lower banks of the Ma River, upstream of the Chu River and rivers in the province is continuing to rise.
Water levels on rivers are commonly at alarm level 1 to alarm level 2 and above alarm level 2. Notably, the Buoi and Yen rivers have exceeded alarm level 3.
At 7:00 AM on September 17, on the Buoi River, the water level at Thach Quang station reached 16.99m, 0.99m higher than alarm level 3; at Kim Tan station reached 12.88m, 0.88m higher than alarm level 3.
On the Yen River, the water level at Chuoi station reached 4.15m, 0.65m higher than alarm level 3. The Len River at Len station reached 5.45m, 0.45m higher than alarm level 2.
On the Chu River, the water level at Cua Dat station reached 29.83m, 0.33m higher than alarm level 2; Bai Thuong station reached 15.72m, 0.72m higher than alarm level 1.
Meanwhile, on the Ma River, the water level at Cam Thuy station reached 18.80m, about 0.2m lower than alarm level 2; at Ly Nhan station reached 10.42m, about 0.58m lower than alarm level 2; Giang station reached 5.35m, about 0.15m lower than alarm level 2.
According to forecasts, in the next 24 hours, floods on rivers will continue to rise. The Buoi River at Kim Tan station is likely to reach 13.20m in the late afternoon of September 17, about 1.20m higher than alarm level 3.
The Yen River at Chuoi station is forecast to reach 4.40m at about 3-7 pm on September 17, about 0.90m higher than alarm level 3. The Len River at Len station is likely to reach alarm level 3.
On the Ma River and Chu River, the common water level is at alarm level 1 to alarm level 2; especially downstream of the Ma River at Giang station is forecast to rise to alarm level 2 and above alarm level 2.
The meteorological agency warns of a high risk of flooding in low-lying areas, residential areas and traffic routes along the Buoi and Yen rivers.
Localities in the Buoi River basin at risk of being affected include Thach Quang, Thach Binh, Thanh Vinh, Kim Tan, Tay Do, Vinh Loc, Van Du.
In the Yen River basin, warned localities include Nong Cong, Thang Binh, Truong Van, Trung Chinh, Thang Loi, Tuong Linh, Quang Chinh, Quang Yen, Quang Ngoc, Ngoc Son, Cac Son and Cong Chinh.
A series of localities along the Ma River, Chu River and Len River are also warned of the risk of flooding in low-lying areas.
The level of natural disaster risk due to floods is determined at level 2-3. Floods can cause flooding in low-lying areas along rivers, urban areas, industrial parks, affecting traffic, agricultural production, aquaculture and people's lives.
The meteorological agency requests reservoirs and dams in the basin to strengthen monitoring of rain and flood developments, inspect works and operate regulation according to regulations to ensure dam safety and limit risks for downstream areas.
Along with the situation of rising river water, heavy rain also caused landslides in many areas. In the early morning of September 17, on provincial road 530B, the section from Km5+900 to Km6+300 through Dong Luong commune, landslides occurred in 4 locations.
About 800m3 of soil and rocks from the Na Nieng hill area spilled onto the road surface, causing traffic between Dong Luong and Van Phu communes to be temporarily cut off.
Local authorities have erected barriers, placed warning signs, and cordoned off dangerous areas, not allowing people and vehicles to pass through. Because on the morning of September 17 the area continued to have heavy rain and the risk of landslides was still complicated, land and rock clearance could not be carried out.
