On the morning of September 17, leaders of Quynh Thang Commune People's Committee, Nghe An province said that prolonged heavy rain in recent days has seriously damaged a section of National Highway 48E passing through the area.
The affected area is located at Khe Da Han bridge, about 10m long, on National Highway 48E connecting Nghia Dan commune with Quynh Thang commune.
According to local authorities, rain and floods caused water from streams, streams and upstream to flow quickly. At times, the water rose and overflowed the bridge deck and road sections on both sides, making it impossible for people to travel.
The strong water flow then continued to erode into the roadbed. When the water receded, the Da Han stream bridge surface and the asphalt concrete layer at both ends of the bridge showed many peeling and damaged locations.
At the scene, large cracks appeared on the bridge deck. The asphalt concrete layer was loosened, revealing crushed stone underneath. Some locations of the roadbed were deeply hollowed out by water, still mud; many patches of the road surface were loose, skewed, creating gaps.
Immediately after detecting the incident, on the night of September 16, local authorities coordinated with the road management unit to organize barricades, temporarily prohibiting people and vehicles from passing through the dangerous area.
The road management unit also mobilized machinery and personnel to the scene to inspect and handle damaged locations. Damaged points on the Khe Da Han bridge have been temporarily repaired, helping people and vehicles to travel through the area.
Local authorities continue to coordinate with road management units to monitor the construction status, especially in complex weather conditions.
