On September 16, in many mountainous communes of Thanh Hoa belonging to the old Lang Chanh district, prolonged heavy rain caused river and stream water to rise, many points of flooding and landslides appeared, affecting traffic and people's lives.
In Yen Khuong commune, by 8 am on the same day, the water level in some stream areas continued to rise. Local authorities advised people not to go through underground and overflow areas that are flooded or have strong currents; not to go down to rivers and streams to scoop fish or catch fish during heavy rain.
People are also required to limit travel through areas at risk of unsafety, regularly monitor flood developments and notify authorities when detecting unusual situations.
In Linh Son commune, heavy rain from September 15 to the morning of September 16 caused the water level of the Am River, Cay River and rivers and streams in the area to rise.
Many bridge and overflow points such as Hon Oi, Luoi stream, Lang Trung, Huyen Doi, Giang Vin are deeply flooded, not ensuring safety for people and vehicles passing through.
Landslides occurred in the Chenh area, causing traffic through this area to be disrupted.
Faced with the risk of flooding, flash floods and landslides, the Linh Son commune government has implemented response plans, organizing the relocation of nearly 300 people in dangerous areas to safe places.
On the same morning, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hong - Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Linh Son commune directly inspected the flood situation and response work in the villages.
Local authorities especially remind households living along the Am River and areas that are frequently flooded to closely monitor water levels, proactively move assets and be ready to evacuate when requested.
People are advised to absolutely not go to the river to collect firewood or fish when the water is rising rapidly.
In Dong Luong commune, heavy rain also caused some spillways to be flooded and landslides to appear on traffic routes.
At about 1 pm on September 16, the Na Nieng hill area, Tan Lap village, on road 530B from Dong Luong to Van Phu commune continued to experience landslides. Soil and rocks, trees overflowed and covered the road surface, causing traffic to be completely blocked.
The Dong Luong commune government has arranged forces to be on duty, guard and prevent people and vehicles from passing through the landslide area; and at the same time deployed a plan to handle soil, rocks, and trees to soon clear the route.
Previously, the commune's working groups inspected the Tan Thuy spillway area and Chu Mon lake along with many key locations. At 5 am, the water level of Chu Mon lake was at alarm level 3, then receded to alarm level 1.
Functional forces continue to be deployed at sluices and spillways with strong currents; and at the same time, review lakes, dams, irrigation works and areas at risk of landslides.
In the context of heavy rain still diễn biến phức tạp, the authorities of mountainous communes of Thanh Hoa continue to maintain forces in key areas, proactively evacuate people when necessary and warn not to let people and vehicles pass through deep flooded and landslide points.
