Information from the Traffic Police Department (CSGT) - Hanoi City Police said that according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the early morning of October 8, the water level on the Cau River at Gia Bay station (Thai Nguyen) peaked at 29.9m - 2.9m higher than alert level 3 and 1.09m higher than the historical flood level in 2024 caused by Typhoon Yagi. Floods are forecast to continue causing widespread flooding in downstream areas.
In response to the above situation, on the morning of October 8, Waterway Police Team No. 1 - Hanoi Traffic Police Department coordinated with the People's Committee of Trung Gia Commune (Hanoi City), the police, military and militia forces to organize the evacuation of people in An Lac village - the downstream area of Cau River to a safe place.
The authorities mobilized specialized vehicles, motorboats, trucks and dozens of officers and soldiers to participate in supporting the transportation of people and property.
By 12:00 on the same day, the units had evacuated 15 households with 50 people, including many elderly people and children.
According to Major Nguyen Manh Hung - an officer of the Waterway Police Team No. 1, the water level of the Cau River is continuing to rise, the unit maintains a 24/7 standing force to support people, preventing human losses.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Duc Thang - Captain of the No. 1 Waterway Police Team added that, implementing the flood and storm prevention plan of the Hanoi Traffic Police Department, the unit has arranged officers and soldiers to regularly inspect key locations of weak dykes and dykes under construction; coordinate with patrol and guard forces to promptly detect, handle incidents and proactively organize the evacuation of people in low-lying areas and along rivers to safe places.
The circulation of storm No. 11 caused heavy rain from the night of October 6, causing most of the central streets of Thai Nguyen to be heavily flooded.
By the morning of October 8, the rain had stopped but the water level was still rising, many places were flooded, up to the first floor of a house.
According to information from the National Hydrometeorological Station, the flood level is still above alert level 3 and will remain there for a long time.
Low-lying areas such as Quang Vinh, Gia Bay, Tuc Duyen (Thai Nguyen province) continue to face the risk of widespread flooding, with deep flooding decreasing slowly by only 5 - 10cm per hour.
The disaster risk level is warned at level 3, the authorities recommend that people in low-lying areas and along the Cau River should closely monitor the warning information and be ready to evacuate when required to ensure the safety of life and property.
