According to Notice No. 201/TB-UBND, the temporary suspension of traffic for cars across Ka Long Bridge is to serve the inspection and survey of the quality of the project after a raised crack appeared on the bridge surface.
The suspension will be applied from 9:00 p.m. on May 4, 2025 until further notice.
During this time, cars will temporarily travel through Hoa Binh Bridge (National Highway 18) and other routes to the center of Mong Cai City and in the opposite direction.
Mong Cai City People's Committee assigned the People's Committees of Ka Long Ward and Tran Phu Ward to coordinate in establishing a working group to organize traffic flow, guide traffic, strictly control vehicles in the Ka Long Bridge area to ensure traffic safety and serve the work of inspection and survey of bridge quality; The Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Affairs Department is responsible for inspecting and urging the implementation of notices, synthesizing and promptly reporting arising issues to the City People's Committee for direction and handling.

Ka Long Bridge is located on National Highway 18, across the Ka Long River in Mong Cai City. The bridge is over 230m long, the only stone arch bridge in Vietnam built entirely with natural stone, without the use of alloying materials such as cement or lime.
The project started in September 1963 and was completed in May5. In early 2015, Ka Long Bridge was repaired, upgraded and installed with a modern decorative lighting system.
On the evening of May 4, 2025, after images and videos of the cracks across the bridge were circulating on Facebook, Mong Cai City authorities quickly issued a notice to temporarily suspend traffic to ensure safety and conduct an inspection to assess the current status of the project.
