On the morning of June 13, informing Lao Dong Newspaper, the People's Committee of Thai Thuy Commune (Le Thuy District) said that the Da Lam Dam in the area had just broken, threatening many residential areas downstream.
Initial information said that the broken section was about 15m long, causing water from the reservoir to overflow strongly to lower communes. Da Lam Dam has a capacity of about 500,000m3. Previously, the lake management unit proactively opened part to release less water.
The authorities are urgently deploying response measures, closely monitoring the situation, warning and evacuating people in areas at risk of deep flooding if the water continues to flow quickly.
