A series of hydropower companies in Da Nang issued urgent notices on the operation and regulation of reservoirs to proactively welcome heavy rains that are expected to last from tonight to November 19.
According to Song Bung Hydropower Company, Song Bung 4 reservoir started operating at 1:00 a.m. on November 16, with an expected downstream discharge of 150 - 1,500 m3/s. The unit said the goal is to gradually lower the lake water level to 216m above sea level before 9:00 a.m. on November 17 to increase the ability to reduce flooding in downstream areas.

At the same time, A Vuong Hydropower Joint Stock Company announced the operation of regulating A Vuong Lake from 1:00 a.m. on November 16, with an expected discharge flow of 70 - 350m3/s. The representative of the unit said that the lake needs to bring the water level to the lowest flood level of 370m before 9:00 a.m. on November 17 to ensure safety for downstream in the event of heavy rain for many days.
Song Tranh Hydropower Company also informed about the operation of Song Tranh 2 Lake, discharging downstream the expected flow of 220 - 1,500m3/s to gradually lower the water level to the flood receiving level according to regulations.
According to the Central Hydrometeorological Station, from the night of November 15 to the end of November 17, Da Nang will experience a period of heavy to very heavy rain. The plains and midlands are forecast to have common rainfall of 150 - 250mm, some places exceeding 300mm.
From the night of November 17 to the end of the night of November 18, heavy rain will continue with a total common amount of 80 - 200mm, some places may be over 300mm. From November 19, there is a high possibility of widespread heavy rain continuing.
The risk of flash floods, landslides in mountainous communes and flooding in low-lying areas and urban areas is warned at a high level.The risk level of natural disasters due to heavy rain in the plains and northwestern mountainous areas is level 1; in the southern mountainous areas, it is level 2.
Localities are advised to closely monitor the development of floods and rains, prepare response plans, and ensure the safety of people.
