Nghe An - Severe landslides after heavy rain have caused many roads in Ky Son district to be cut off, people are advised not to move through the danger zone.

On May 24, Mr. Ha Ba Thai - Chairman of the People's Committee of Muong Tap commune, Ky Son district (Nghe An) - said that heavy rain lasting from the evening of May 23 caused many serious landslides on the road from Muong Xen town to Ta Ca, Muong Tap, Muong Ai communes.

Due to heavy rain, the road bordering Xop Kham village and Xop tip village was flooded with rocks and soil from the mountainside, blocking the road surface. Many large blocks of rocks and mud are dumped on the road, making it impossible for cars to move, only motorbikes or pedestrians can squeeze through, but it is very dangerous.

"Currently, the risk of landslides is still very high, it can continue to occur at any time. The local government is closely monitoring the situation and advising people not to travel through the landslide area" - Mr. Thai said.

The main route connecting the district center with remote communes such as Muong tip and Muong Ai is currently under a state of warning of danger. The authorities have put up warning signs, conducted damage statistics and made initial handling plans.

However, according to the Chairman of Muong Tap Commune People's Committee, the repair work encountered many difficulties due to continued unfavorable weather, rugged mountainous terrain, and difficulty in reaching by mechanical means.

Local authorities are mobilizing local forces to prepare plans to evacuate people if heavy rain continues to cause severe landslides. In the coming time, the transport sector and the Ky Son district government will coordinate to deploy emergency response measures to ensure the safety of people in the highlands.
