Since the evening of October 20, heavy rain has been pouring down in many districts in Ho Chi Minh City such as District 12, Go Vap, Binh Thanh, Tan Binh, Hoc Mon District... causing many roads to be deeply flooded. In some areas, the rainwater was more than half way up the wheels, causing serious traffic congestion and making it difficult for people to move around.
According to the reporter's records, on Trung My Tay 13A Street (District 12), the traffic jam lasted nearly 500m. At around 9pm the same day, the heavy rain made the flooding worse, with water flowing into people's houses.
In Go Vap district, severe flooding occurred on some streets such as Phan Huy Ich, Pham Van Chieu... Water flooded up to the wheels of vehicles, forcing many vehicle owners to get out and walk. Some houses along the above streets also had water entering their houses, soaking their belongings.
Similar situations also occurred on An Duong Vuong Street (Binh Tan District), Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street (from Dai Liet Si intersection towards Binh Quoi and Thanh Da streets), widespread flooding made it difficult for vehicles to travel.
Ms. Duong Thi Cam Ha (21 years old, living in Binh Thanh district) said that this was the longest heavy rain in the past few days. Flooding combined with heavy rain made it difficult for Ms. Ha to return home.
"I've been waiting at the cafe on the way home for almost 2 hours now, but the rain shows no sign of stopping. The water is so deep that I don't dare go home for fear that my motorbike will stall," said Ms. Ha.
According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Forecasting Station, the cause of thunderstorms is due to the continental cold high pressure increasing and shifting east. The low pressure trough with an axis through the Southern region is gradually becoming stronger.
The rain will continue tonight. Heavy rain combined with high tides in the early morning will cause flooding. Therefore, people need to pay attention to checking warehouses, electricity, water, technical infrastructure, etc., promptly detect and handle any impact.
