After listening to departments, branches and related units quickly report on the situation, the Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee requested departments and localities to postpone unnecessary meetings, focus on leading, directing and implementing solutions to respond to floods.
Localities are required to proactively arrange forces, materials, and vehicles in key areas, ready to handle incidents when they occur.
For isolated areas, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested to proactively supply food sources; ensure communication; have measures to protect people's houses and public works and prepare rescue plans when necessary.
The education sector is assigned to review the actual situation and promptly notify students to take leave from school in unsafe places.
The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism focuses on inspecting and ensuring safety at cultural works and historical relics.
The Department of Construction must firmly grasp the situation of damage to road and waterway traffic infrastructure; prepare machinery and materials to promptly open roads to serve rescue and traffic assurance.
The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested press and media agencies to strengthen updating on the flood and traffic situation; guide people on safety measures and disaster response skills.
The above direction was issued in the context of rising floods on many rivers in Thanh Hoa, with some places exceeding alarm level III.
According to the bulletin of Thanh Hoa Provincial Hydrometeorological Station broadcast at 9:00 am on September 17, the water level above the middle and lower reaches of the Ma River, upstream of the Chu River and rivers in the province continued to rise.
Notably, at 7:00 AM on September 17, on the Buoi River, the water level at Thach Quang station reached 16.99m, 0.99m higher than alarm level III; at Kim Tan station reached 12.88m, 0.88m higher than alarm level III.
On the Yen River, the water level at Chuoi station reached 4.15m, 0.65m higher than alarm level III. The Len River at Len station reached 5.45m, 0.45m higher than alarm level II.
The meteorological agency forecasts that in the next 24 hours, floods on rivers will continue to rise. The Buoi River at Kim Tan station is likely to reach 13.20m in the late afternoon of September 17, about 1.20m higher than alarm level III.
Yen River at Chuoi station may reach 4.40m in the afternoon of September 17, about 0.90m higher than alarm level III; Len River is likely to reach alarm level III.
High risk of flooding in low-lying areas, residential areas and traffic routes along the Buoi and Yen rivers; many areas along the Ma, Chu and Len rivers are also warned of flooding risk.
