According to statistics from the Standing Office of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control of Bac Kan province, the prolonged heavy rain on May 17 and 18 caused widespread flash floods and landslides. To date, the total damage caused by natural disasters is estimated at 100 billion VND.
The whole province recorded 4 deaths and 3 injuries in Yen Duong and Dong Phuc communes (Ba Be district). 246 affected houses include collapsed, mud- flooded, landslides on the embankment, cracks, and subsidence in Ba Be, Cho Don, Ngan Son, Pac Nam, Bach Thong districts and Bac Kan city.
Ba Be was the locality that suffered the most damage with 182 houses, including 6 solid houses that were completely destroyed.
Regarding agriculture, more than 400 hectares of crops and 16 hectares of aquaculture ponds were damaged, 120 livestock and poultry died and were swept away.
Many infrastructure facilities in Ba Be district were severely damaged. Traffic routes were eroded and cut off, especially DT 257B, DT 258, and the road around Ba Be Lake.
When the natural disaster occurred, the authorities were present at the scene, synchronously deploying rescue and relief plans, and overcoming the consequences.
