On the afternoon of September 17, the Thanh Hoa Provincial Civil Defense Command said that from September 13 to September 17, moderate to heavy rain occurred in the province, with very heavy rain in some places, with common rainfall from 300-500 mm.
Heavy rain caused floods on the Ma, Yen, Len, Buoi, and Cau Chay rivers to rise, with many places exceeding alarm levels.
Notably, at 3:00 PM on September 17, the water level of the Buoi River at Kim Tan station was 13.37 m, above alarm level III by 1.37 m; the Yen River at Chuoi station above alarm level III by 0.81 m; the Cau Chay River at Xuan Vinh above alarm level III by 0.4 m.
Faced with the complicated developments of natural disasters, 45 communes and wards have proactively evacuated 1,016 households with 3,892 people in areas at risk of being affected to safe places.
Rain and floods also caused localized flooding of roads into residential areas in 18 communes and wards, affecting 2,679 households with 10,061 people.
By the afternoon of September 17, the whole province recorded 8,419 households flooded. Among them, some localities have a large number of flooded households such as Ham Rong 2,223 households, Nong Cong 1,524 households, Kim Tan 1,364 households, Thanh Vinh 675 households and Ha Trung 500 households.
Traffic in many areas is seriously affected. On national highways, 5 out of 9 landslide locations causing traffic jams have been handled and cleared; the remaining 4 locations are being repaired. On provincial roads, 7 landslide locations still cause traffic jams.
The whole province recorded 108 positive taluy landslide locations with about 30,478 m3 of soil and rock, 4 negative taluy landslide locations. Many national highways and provincial roads continue to be flooded, affecting people's travel.
Damage in agricultural production is also quite large. The total area of crops flooded is about 6,700 hectares, including 3,777 hectares of rice, 1,673 hectares of vegetables and 1,250 hectares of sugarcane. In addition, 1,134 hectares of aquaculture area were flooded and broken.
Faced with the above situation, Thanh Hoa province has established many working groups to inspect and direct disaster response and recovery efforts in key areas.
Thanh Hoa Provincial Military Command maintains more than 15,200 officers and soldiers ready to participate in response, of which more than 2,000 officers and soldiers have been mobilized to support disaster recovery.
Thanh Hoa Provincial Police also mobilized thousands of officers, soldiers and forces to participate in protecting security and order at the grassroots level to support people in affected areas.
