Water levels of hydroelectric reservoirs in the North on December 12

The water level in the Northern hydroelectric reservoirs is generally stable, many reservoirs maintain power generation with the flow discharged through the plant.

As of 7:00 a.m. on December 12, 2025, according to an update from Vietnam Electricity Group, at Tuyen Quang Hydropower Reservoir, the upstream water level reached 119.64 m, near normal rise. Total discharge is 184.88 m3/s, all through the plant.

In the Northwest area, Lai Chau Lake recorded upstream water levels of 292.99 m, discharging 254 m3/s through the plant.

Ban Chat Lake on the morning of December 12 reached 474.50 m, close to normal water level (475 m). However, the flow to the reservoir is only 12 m3/s, so the plant does not generate discharge through the dam and discharge through the generator.

Huoi Quang Lake is also in a similar situation when the water level reached 369.64 m (near the normal increase of 370 m), but the flow is only 17 m3/s, not causing discharge.

At Son La Lake, the water level is 214.76 m, the total discharge is 995 m3/s, all through the plant to optimize power generation.
Hoa Binh Lake maintains a water level of 116.20 m, discharging 632 m3/s.

Thac Ba Lake recorded a water level of 57.90 m, no discharge.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, today, December 12, the strong cold air mass in the north is moving south. The Northern region will have cloudy skies with scattered rain.

From tonight, the Northeast region, the West of Phu Tho province and the East of Son La province and the East of Lao Cai province will have moderate rain, heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain with common rainfall from 30-70mm, locally very heavy rain over 120mm.

In the afternoon and night of December 13, the North Central region will have moderate rain, heavy rain with common rainfall from 30-60mm, locally very heavy rain over 100mm. Warning of the risk of heavy rain (>100mm/3 hours).

The South Central Coast region of the North is cloudy, with scattered rain, showers and thunderstorms; the South is cloudy, with scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Other areas will have cloudy skies with rain in some places. People and tourists should be on guard against thunderstorms that can cause tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind.
