Hydropower reservoirs in the North are flexibly operated according to flood developments, ensuring safety for downstream areas.

As of 6:00 a.m. on October 15, 2025, according to an update from Vietnam Electricity Group, Hoa Binh Lake recorded upstream water levels at elevation of 116.42m; water flow to the lake reached 2,229m3/s; total discharge was 3,932m3/s.

Implementing the inter-reservoir operation process in the Red River basin, Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant opened a bottom spillway gate at 3:00 p.m. on October 14 to stabilize downstream flow.

At Tuyen Quang Lake, by 6:00 a.m. on October 15, the upstream water level reached 116.95 m; the water flow to the lake reached 1,217 m3/s, the total discharge was 1,212.93 m3/s. Currently, Tuyen Quang Hydropower Plant maintains one bottom spillway.

Previously, from October 1 to 4:00 p.m. on October 12, Tuyen Quang Hydropower Company closed 9 spillways.

On the contrary, as of 6:00 a.m. on October 15, Son La Lake had an upstream water level of 215.06 m; the water flow to the lake was only 930 m3/s but the total discharge was up to 1,854 m3/s. Currently, the unit has closed all bottom spillways, only continuing to generate electricity through the generator.

A similar situation occurred in Lai Chau Lake, where the upstream water level reached 294.42m; the water flow to the lake reached 950m3/s; the total discharge was 1,155m3/s. Currently, Lai Chau Hydropower Plant has also closed all bottom spillways, only operating power generation.

At Thac Ba Lake, by 6:00 a.m. on October 15, the upstream water level reached 57.97 m; the water flow to the lake reached 396 m3/s, the total discharge was 373.93 m3/s. Currently, Thac Ba Hydropower Plant maintains two open-top spillways.

In the context of prolonged heavy rain, the flexible operation of hydroelectric reservoirs, ensuring safety downstream is considered a key factor in natural disaster prevention in the North.

According to the new weather forecast from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, today, October 15, the Northern region will have cloudy skies with scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain.

From Thanh Hoa to Hue, the sky will be cloudy, with moderate rain and scattered thunderstorms in the North, with some places having heavy rain; in the South, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms in some places, especially in the late afternoon and evening, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms in some places.

Other areas will have cloudy weather, with scattered showers and thunderstorms; in the late afternoon, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms.
