According to updates from Vietnam Electricity Group, as of 9 am on January 21, 2026, Hoa Binh reservoir recorded upstream water level at an altitude of 114.39m; water flow to the reservoir reached 370m3/s; total discharge through the plant is 363m3/s.
At Tuyen Quang reservoir, by 9 am on January 21, the upstream water level reached 116.88m; water flow to the reservoir reached 121m3/s; total discharge volume 117.71m3/s.
Implementing the inter-reservoir operation process on the Red River basin, Tuyen Quang Hydropower Plant has closed the bottom discharge gate of Tuyen Quang hydropower reservoir, currently only maintaining power generation through units.
As of 9 am on January 21, Son La reservoir recorded upstream water level reaching 214.53m; water flow to the reservoir 293m3/s; total discharge volume 1,472m3/s. Currently, the unit has closed all bottom discharge gates, only maintaining power generation through generating units to regulate downstream flow.
A similar situation occurred at Lai Chau reservoir, where the upstream water level reached 293.13m; water flow to the reservoir reached 109m3/s; no spillway discharge. Currently, Lai Chau Hydropower Plant has also closed all surface discharge gates, only operating power generation through units.
At Thac Ba reservoir, as of 9 am on January 21, the upstream water level reached 56.88m; water flow to the reservoir was only 82m3/s; total discharge was 279.83m3/s; no overflow discharge.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, today, January 21, the Northern region will have scattered rain, very cold weather, and severe cold in mountainous areas; the North Central region will turn cold.
The area from Ha Tinh to Da Nang city and the eastern provinces from Quang Ngai to Gia Lai will have rain, showers, locally moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms.
The Southern region in the evening and at night has showers in some places, sunny days.
