According to updated data at 8:00 AM on August 24, the upstream water level of Hoa Binh Lake is at 102.71 m, 14.29 m lower than the normal water level of 117 m and 80 m higher than the dead water level.
Water flow to the reservoir reached 2,909 m3/s. Total discharge volume at 403 m3/s, all through the spillway dam; no water discharged through the plant.
Previously, at 7:00 AM on August 22, the upstream water level of Hoa Binh Lake was at an elevation of 102.36 m, the downstream water level was 13.31 m, the water inflow to the lake was 2,597 m3/s, and the total inflow to the downstream was 4,391 m3/s.
Implementing Official Dispatch No. 9680/CD-BNNMT dated August 22, 2026 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Hoa Binh Hydropower Company closed 1 bottom discharge gate at 4:00 PM on August 22. After closing the bottom discharge gate, the water flow downstream is expected to be about 2,900 m3/s.
Agencies, units and local authorities are requested to coordinate and direct relevant units to proactively plan to ensure safety for people and vehicles in the downstream area of Hoa Binh Hydropower Dam.
