On the afternoon of April 10, in Ninh Kieu ward, Can Tho city, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Coast Guard Party Committee coordinated with the Standing Committees: Can Tho City Party Committee, An Giang Provincial Party Committee, Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee to organize a Conference to sign the Coordination Program for mass mobilization work "Coast Guard accompanies fishermen", period 2026 - 2030.
Through the Conference, it aims to promote the strength of the great national unity bloc, the entire political system and people in the provinces and cities of Can Tho, An Giang, Ca Mau in coordinating with the Vietnam Coast Guard to firmly protect the sovereignty, sovereign rights, jurisdiction, security, order, and safety of the sea and islands of the Fatherland and sustainable development of Vietnam's marine economy; helping to raise awareness and awareness of law compliance of fishermen when operating at sea, especially regulations on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, regulations on maritime safety, and protection of the marine environment...
The coordination program for the period 2026 - 2030 is identified with many key, comprehensive and long-term contents, in which focus is placed on organizing propaganda and dissemination of the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws, and legal education for the people; participating in building safe areas, a strong political system; supporting localities in developing economy, culture, society, reducing poverty, building new rural areas, implementing social security activities, gratitude, contributing to improving the living standards, material and spiritual aspects of the people; supporting and helping fishermen reach out to sea, stick to the sea, contributing to maintaining security and sovereignty over the sea and islands of the Fatherland; performing the task of mobilizing human resources, vehicles, and civilian ships to participate in protecting sea and island sovereignty.
Over nearly 7 years of implementing the Program (from August 2019 to now), the Vietnam Coast Guard, directly the Coast Guard Region 4 Command, has coordinated with localities in the Southwest provinces and cities to organize 120 legal propaganda sessions for more than 50,000 people; distributed over 100,000 documents, books, and leaflets; donated 17,000 national flags, 2,200 photos of Uncle Ho, 1,000 medical medicine bags; organized visits and presented more than 2,880 gifts to policy families and fishermen's families in difficult circumstances in the area with a value of more than 2.8 billion VND; organized medical examinations and free medicine distribution for nearly 4,000 people. Successfully organized 24 "I love the sea and islands of my homeland" contests for secondary school students of 144 schools in the area, attracting 198,000 student participations, awarding 882 prizes to collectives and individuals with high achievements in the Contest; and awarded 236 bicycles, 300 school bags and 2,000 scholarships (each worth 1 million VND) to poor students overcoming difficulties. Coordinating to handle over 100 maritime accidents, rescuing 98 people and 9 fishing vessels.
Speaking at the Conference, Lieutenant General Bui Quoc Oai - Political Commissar of the Vietnam Coast Guard emphasized: The program "Coast Guard accompanies fishermen" is a major policy, with profound socio-political significance, contributing to consolidating the military-civilian solidarity relationship, building a solid "people's heart formation" at sea. In the new stage, the requirement is to continue to innovate the content and form of implementation, ensuring practicality, efficiency, and closeness to the characteristics of each locality.
The comrade affirmed that the Vietnam Coast Guard will continue to closely coordinate with Party committees and local authorities to join hands in caring for the material and spiritual life of the people; promptly support and help people reach out to sea, stick to the sea, feel secure in labor and production, contributing to firmly protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
At the Conference, representatives of leaders of the Can Tho City Party Committee, An Giang Provincial Party Committee, and Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee expressed high consensus with the content of the coordination program; and affirmed that they will focus on leading and directing the synchronous and effective implementation, closely linking socio-economic development tasks with consolidating national defense and security; promoting the strength of the entire political system and the entire people in participating in protecting sea and island sovereignty.
