The morning bulletin on June 8 of Thanh Hoa Hydrometeorological Station said that after a series of intense hot days, from this evening (June 8), the province will begin to welcome a period of heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, tornadoes, and lightning. Functional agencies also issued warnings of high risk of natural disasters in many areas.
According to forecasts from Thanh Hoa Hydrometeorological Station, the mountainous area north and northwest of Thanh Hoa including forecast points: Muong Lat, Quan Son, Hoi Xuan, Thiet Ong, Cam Thuy, Kim Tan will be directly affected by strongly developing convective cloud areas.
From the evening of June 8 to the morning of June 10, Thanh Hoa area is expected to experience moderate to heavy rain, with very heavy rain in some places, mainly concentrated in the late afternoon and night. The total rainfall is commonly fluctuating in the range of 50 - 100 mm, locally exceeding 150 mm.
In the coastal plains, including communes and wards: Vinh Loc, Yen Dinh, Ha Trung, Bim Son, Nga Son, Hau Loc, Hoang Hoa, Thieu Hoa, Trieu Son, Nong Cong, Nghi Son, Quang Chinh, Hac Thanh, Dong Son and Sam Son, the forecast rainfall ranges from 40 - 80 mm, with some places over 120 mm.

Disaster risk warnings are issued at level 1. People need to be especially wary of the high risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas with steep terrain. Heavy rains are likely to be accompanied by extreme weather phenomena such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind, causing the risk of falling trees, damage to crops, houses as well as traffic and infrastructure works. In addition, localized heavy rains can cause urban drainage system overload, leading to flooding, traffic jams and reducing visibility for traffic participants.
Faced with complicated weather developments, functional agencies recommend that people should proactively closely monitor weather forecasts, limit outdoor movement when unnecessary during heavy rain. At the same time, localities need to prepare plans to prevent flash floods and landslides to protect the safety of people and livestock and reinforce houses to minimize damage.
Thanh Hoa Hydrometeorological Station further noted that this period of heavy rain and thunderstorms will last until the morning of June 10. From the afternoon of June 10, rain will gradually decrease, Thanh Hoa area will only have scattered showers and thunderstorms with common rainfall from 10 - 30 mm. Although rainfall is reduced, people still need to be wary of risks of unsafety for people and property.
This is a typical seasonal transition from hot weather to thunderstorms. Therefore, localities, units and people need to raise their vigilance, proactively implement disaster prevention measures to ensure safety of life and production activities.
