Coming to the house of Mr. Ho Hoang Kha (31 years old, Song Xoai commune, Phu My town) on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025, the 30-year-old apricot tree planted in front of the house is starting to bloom, with many flower buds on the expanding canopy.
Mr. Kha said that his father had dug up the apricot tree and planted it in the garden behind his house in 1995 when he first came to Song Xoai commune to start a business. At that time, the apricot tree was very small and normal, but after being accidentally cut in half by a hoe, the apricot tree sprouted 5 trunks and grew rapidly.
Seeing the beautiful apricot tree with a round canopy and many flowers, the family moved it to plant in front of the house, and the tree grew even more, giving many buds and flowers every Tet holiday.
"The apricot tree, which had five beautiful trunks, was recently infected with a borer, so the largest trunk died and had to be cut down. I feel so sorry I could cry. My family is currently focusing on taking care of the tree," said Mr. Kha.
Previously, the family built a round basin to protect it, but this year they raised the mound to make the apricot tree stand out more. Currently, the tree is over 6m tall, has a canopy of over 10m and is laden with flower buds.
The apricot tree is a wild apricot variety, with flowers having 5-7 petals. To make the apricot tree bloom in time for Tet, Mr. Kha had to hire workers to meticulously pick the leaves for 2-3 days. It is expected that from the 28th of Tet, the tree will bloom bright yellow flowers until the 3rd day of Tet.
Previously, the apricot tree was little known, but Mr. Kha's family planted grapefruit for Tet, many traders came to the house and enjoyed filming and taking pictures, so the image of the apricot tree was spread.
"Someone came to buy it before, but the family had no intention of selling so they refused," said Mr. Kha.
