Quang Ngai prepares for the peak season for rice snail exploitation at sea. The rice snail season in Quang Ngai lasts from January to the end of March of the lunar calendar every year.
Rice snails are considered the "seafood" of fishermen in coastal coastal areas. In particular, the coastal area of Duc Minh commune, Mo Duc district, Quang Ngai province is home to many rice snails. The rice snail scraping profession brings high income. On average, fishermen earn 2 - 4 million VND/person per day.
Due to high income, in previous years, in order to monopolize rice snails exploitation, some fishermen in Duc Minh commune had hit many fishermen in other localities to exploit rice snails in the waters of their homeland. Some subjects violated the law and were prosecuted.
Mr. Nguyen Van Sang (in Minh Tan Nam village, Duc Minh commune) said: "During the rice snail mining season, each sea trip of my father and I took about 5-6 hours, collecting 2-6 bags of rice snails (1kg/bag). Although the demand for buying rice snails is high, fishermen are still actively protecting fishing grounds near the shore, not using forms of exploitation to destroy and destroy the environment".

Before each rice snail harvest season in the sea area of Duc Minh commune, Duc Minh Border Guard Station strengthens coordination with local authorities to propagate policies and laws to fishermen. Thereby, raising people's awareness of law compliance and preventing conflicts and disputes at sea.
Lieutenant Colonel Ho Van Hung - Political Commissar of Duc Minh Border Guard Station - said that since the beginning of 2025, the unit has regularly patrolled at sea and on land, controlling seafood exploitation activities in the waters of the district. In particular, strengthen the work of grasping public information, detecting early, from afar, from within the shore information about the risk of disputes in fishing grounds, to promptly prevent and handle violations according to regulations.
In the coming time, Duc Minh Border Guard Station will set up checkpoints and coordinate with the Commune Military Command and Duc Minh Commune Police to assign officers and soldiers to be on duty, closely monitor vulnerable fisheries and rice snail fishing grounds at risk of disputes; promptly detect, prevent and handle related issues.
The unit regularly monitors and manages vehicles entering and exiting Cua Lo, Thang Loi commune, resolutely prevents and handles vehicles that do not meet the requirements according to the provisions of law to participate in seafood fishing to promptly report incidents and incidents that occur in the management area to the Provincial Border Guard Command and the District People's Committee. From there, promptly direct the resolution, not to let 'hot spots' arise, causing insecurity and disorder in the locality - Lieutenant Colonel Hung emphasized.
