The historic flood in mid-November 2025 caused many communes and wards in Gia Lai, especially the downstream area of the Ha Thanh River, to be deeply flooded, causing heavy property damage and greatly affecting people's lives.
To control the risk of flooding and ensure the safety of people's lives and property, Gia Lai province has approved solutions to strengthen the downstream flood drainage system of the Ha Thanh River, Quy Nhon and Tuy Phuoc areas, for the period 2026-2030, with a total budget of more than 2,675 billion VND.
According to the roadmap, in 2026, the province will clear 75 households violating the dike protection corridor of the Cat River, including 47 households in Tuy Phuoc commune and 28 households in Quy Nhon Bac ward.
The province also dredged and cleared the Truong Uc River, Cat River, Cay Me River and Ha Thanh branch; deployed the construction of dykes on the left bank of Ha Thanh branch to protect key residential areas.
In the 2027-2030 period, the province will complete the dyke system of the Cat River and Cay Me River; invest in the Huynh Mai flood drainage axis to divide the Kon River from the An Thuan dam to the Thi Nai lagoon, reducing pressure on the Ha Thanh - Truong Uc river system. The province also plans to build a flood overpass on Dien Bien Phu street, replacing the existing spillway combined traffic route.
Up to now, localities have deployed to handle and clear cases of violations of dike protection corridors, flood drainage corridors of the Cat River, and at the same time carry out dredging, clearing, and clearing the flow.
In which, Tuy Phuoc commune was praised by the Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee for being proactive and drastic in propagating and mobilizing people to dismantle and gradually handle cases of violations of the Cat River dike protection corridor.
On the contrary, Quy Nhon Bac Ward People's Committee - a locality that was heavily flooded during the historic flood - was criticized for being slow and not decisive in clearing cases belonging to the Cat River flood drainage corridor.
The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the Chairman of Quy Nhon Bac Ward People's Committee to directly direct and concentrate forces to urgently complete dossiers, classify and organize the clearance of 28 cases within the flood drainage corridor, and be responsible to the Provincial People's Committee for the progress and results of implementation.
It is proposed that the Secretary of the Party Committee of Quy Nhon Bac ward focus on directing and mobilizing the entire political system to participate, strengthen propaganda and mobilize people, and resolutely handle cases of intentional delay and obstruction of task implementation.
The Provincial Agriculture and Rural Development Project Management Board is responsible for urging contractors to increase manpower and equipment, accelerate dredging, clearing, and drainage in areas where land has been cleared; coordinate with localities to promptly remove obstacles in the construction process.
