The project to build the new Phong Chau bridge - National Highway 32C, Phu Tho province is implemented according to the Order for emergency construction from the end of 2024.
The total investment of the project is more than 635 billion VND, invested by the Thang Long Project Management Board (under the Ministry of Construction), and constructed by Army Corps 12 - Truong Son Construction Corporation.
After 10 months of rapid construction, this key project is now ready to be put into use, meeting the expectations of millions of people in Phu Tho province.
According to the plan, the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Construction and the People's Committee of Phu Tho province will hold the inauguration ceremony of the new Phong Chau bridge on the morning of September 28.
This is an important milestone in the process of overcoming the bridge collapse incident more than a year ago, as well as ensuring smooth traffic on National Highway 32C.
According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, before the inauguration of the new Phong Chau bridge project, large machines and vehicles after many days of operation at the construction site have now been moved to other places.
The new, solid Phong Chau bridge across the Red River has clearly appeared before the eyes of the people.
At the bridgehead area of Phung Nguyen commune, Phu Tho province, a stage is being set up to serve this important ceremony.
Meanwhile, the construction unit is rushing to complete some auxiliary works such as signs and guardrails at the bridgehead area. At the same time, maintaining checkpoints at both ends of the bridge to avoid people arbitrarily crossing the bridge when the project has not been officially opened to traffic and put into use.
At both ends of the bridge, many people came to see and take photos with the new and solid Phong Chau bridge across the Red River. It can be seen that everyone is happy and eager to experience traveling on the bridge after many months of waiting.
Mr. Bui Quang Bich - a resident of Tam Nong commune - happily said: "I am a retired teacher, living near Phong Chau pontoon bridge, every day I witness the army operating the pontoon bridge and constructing a new bridge. Now, the bridge is about to be inaugurated, we are both happy and impressed by the soldiers and those who work for the people without fear of difficulties and hardships".
Mr. Bui Van Tuyen - the owner of a mobile phone store at the Phong Chau bridgehead (in Tam Nong commune) - excitedly said: "That day has finally arrived, we have really been waiting every day. In recent days, people have gathered at both ends of the bridge day and night, which can be said to be a festival. Difficulties will pass, this place will definitely be more bustling and developed than before".
At the same time, after the new Phong Chau bridge is opened to traffic, the Phong Chau pontoon bridge will also end its operation.
On the evening of September 26, the Party Committee and People's Committee of Tam Nong commune held a meeting with officers and soldiers of Brigade 249 - Engineering Corps, the unit that successfully completed the task of building a pontoon bridge to ensure traffic in the Phong Chau bridge area.
The image of soldiers of the 249th Brigade performing the task of operating the pontoon bridge day and night and the image of officers, engineers, and workers of the new Phong Chau Bridge Construction School Construction Corporation have left a deep impression on the Party Committee, government and people of Phu Tho province over the past year.
The new Phong Chau bridge project across the Red River is designed with a main bridge 383m long, the approach road to the sleeper bridge connecting to Phung Nguyen commune is 113m long, Van Xuan commune is 155m long, the surface is 20.5m wide.
