On the morning of September 2nd, Truong Sa Island Clinic (Truong Sa special zone) received and rescued Mr. Nguyen Van Hien (52 years old, from Quy Nhon ward, Gia Lai province), a fisherman on fishing vessel BD 98090 TS, who suffered severe head and jaw injuries during labor at sea.
Previously, at about 4:30 am on September 1st, while pulling nets, Mr. Hien unfortunately had his pulley broken, hitting his face hard, causing him to fall to the ship's deck and faint.
The patient had bleeding in the head and jaw area. After about 3 hours, Mr. Hien woke up and was taken to DK1/7 rig for emergency treatment.
Here, offshore platform officers and soldiers urgently handled, bandaged, and stopped bleeding from the wounds and organized the transfer of patients to Truong Sa island for further treatment.
At 0:45 on September 2, the patient was brought to Truong Sa Island Clinic in a state of alertness, being able to access, being able to walk and move; limbs moving well.
Through examination, doctors discovered that the patient had a wound about 3cm long in the right hemisphere, open wound, accompanied by a fractured bone. The patient also had small skin tear wounds in the left cheekbone, left eyebrow, upper lip and lower lip.
Through diagnostic imaging and examination, doctors determined that the patient suffered traumatic brain injury, concussion; fracture, rupture of bone in the forehead, occipital, and right temporal regions; fracture of the lower jawbone; fracture of the right cheek arch; fracture, rupture of bone in the left temporal-mandibular joint; multiple fractures of the upper jaw.
The patient was monitored for open brain wound, epidural hematoma, and the prognosis was severe.
Truong Sa island clinic organized emergency treatment according to the correct procedure, and at the same time requested professional opinions from Military Hospital 175 to agree on the next handling direction.
After consultation, it was determined that the patient needed to be quickly transferred to the mainland by plane for further intensive treatment.
