On May 25, Mr. Nguyen Kim Chuc, Deputy Head of the Management Board of Ong Nam Hai - Van Dam Xuong Ly (Nhon Ly Commune, Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh Province) said that the unit had completed the burial of a baby whale weighing about 25kg, a female equivalent, commonly called "Co Kiem" by local people.
Previously, on the afternoon of May 24, people discovered the body of "Ms. Kiem" washed ashore and reported it to the Ong Nam Hai Mausoleum Management Board. During the night, the Board and local fishermen held a mat ceremony, and until the morning of May 25, the burial was carried out according to customs.
According to Mr. Chuc, the whale was buried in the whale cemetery of Nhon Ly commune - where there is a land dedicated to burying the whale. After 24 months, the remains will be interred and brought to Ong Lang for worship.
Fishermen in the coastal areas consider elephants as a god of protection every time they go to sea. Every time an elephant wades the shore, people hold a funeral and solemn worship to express their belief in Nam Hai Than Ngu.
