According to Lao Dong Newspaper's records, in the first days of the new year, fishermen in the sea areas of Thanh Hoa province are busy going out to sea to catch seafood. The most focused species is khoai fish because it brings high economic value.

At Sam Son beach (Sam Son ward, Thanh Hoa province), boats and rafts have gone to sea from early dawn. In the middle of the morning of the same day, many vehicles docked bringing fresh shrimp and fish.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Xuyen (53 years old, residing in Sam Son ward, Thanh Hoa province) said that this year khoai fish is quite scarce. The first "sea trips" at the beginning of the year mainly caught snapper fish, shrimp and halibut, so the price of khoai fish increased sharply.

In the first days of the year, the price of khoai fish ranged from 750,000 VND to 800,000 VND/kg, at times up to 1 million VND/kg. Each trip out to sea, we only hope to catch about 1 kg of khoai fish and we are already happy" - Mr. Xuyen said.
According to many fishermen, sweet potato fish sells well because after Tet days, people often eat a lot of meat and proteiny dishes. Therefore, they choose to buy sweet potato fish to cook with vinegar or hot pot to change the taste and make it easier to eat.

Recorded at Sam Son beach, every time boats dock, traders and people come to buy right on the sandy beach. However, the number of boats catching cobia in large quantities is almost non-existent, mainly only scattered a few fish.

Many fishermen said that the first offshore trips of the year not only aim to increase income but also have the meaning of praying for good luck. According to people's beliefs, shrimp and fish filling the hold on the first day of the year is a sign of a year of favorable weather and favorable business.
