According to records of Lao Dong Newspaper reporters on the morning of February 20 (ie, the 4th day of Tet), in coastal fishing villages such as Tien Trang, Quang Binh, Nam Sam Son, Hoang Tien... the atmosphere of labor is bustling from early morning. Rows of boats follow each other to go to sea in the first "sea opening" trip of the year.

Mr. Nguyen Van Ty (51 years old, Hong Phong village, Tien Trang commune) shared that every year, the first offshore trip of the year is of special significance to fishermen. "Coming to sea at the beginning of the year, the ship returning full of fish and shrimp is something fishermen are very looking forward to, because it not only brings economic value but also sends wishes for a smooth and windy year" - Mr. Ty said.

According to fishermen, in the first days of the year, they usually go to sea from about 3-4 am. After many hours of fishing, in the middle of the morning, boats dock in the joy of a bumper crop.

Seafood caught in the "sea fishing trips" are mainly near-shore fish such as turtle, halibut, catfish, along with shrimp, crab... As soon as the boat docks, traders are present to buy directly at the beach, creating a bustling atmosphere at the beginning of spring.

The first sea trip of the year is not only of economic significance but also a long-standing cultural feature of Thanh Hoa coastal fishermen. For them, each time they reach out to sea at the beginning of spring is a new belief for the journey of making a living in the open sea.
