According to preliminary statistics of Van Don district, storm Yagi (storm No. 3) caused over 2,200 billion VND in damage to fishermen raising aquatic products at sea. Of which, molluscs suffered an estimated loss of over 1,300 billion VND; marine fish over 500 billion VND; other seafood nearly 400 billion VND. In addition, 318 raft houses were damaged; nearly 90 boats of all kinds were sunk or broken.
In Cam Pha City, it is estimated that 158/371 aquaculture facilities were damaged by the storm, with total estimated damage of hundreds of billions of VND.
Checking the actual damage situation and talking with aquaculture households at sea that were heavily affected by storm Yagi in Van Don and Cam Pha on September 11, Ms. Trinh Thi Minh Thanh - Standing Deputy Secretary of Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee - sympathized and shared the difficulties of the affected families; at the same time, encouraged the families to try to overcome the difficulties at this time, stay calm, and quickly restore farming for the remaining cages that can be repaired and continued farming.
Ms. Thanh requested the authorities of Van Don district and Cam Pha city to promptly mobilize and continue to support people to overcome the consequences; protect the remaining assets of the people, help people restore production as soon as possible; continue to count the damaged households, the extent of damage, and from there propose mechanisms and policies to support people.
With a large number of damaged cages and oyster farms, the Standing Deputy Secretary of the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee requested the two localities to guide households and arrange forces to support collection and salvage, avoiding environmental pollution and not affecting inland and national waterways passing through the area. For broken or sunken watercraft with a high risk of causing environmental pollution due to oil spills, the two localities need to immediately deploy salvage and containment work, not allowing it to affect the marine environment.
To ensure sustainable aquaculture and adaptation to climate change, Ms. Thanh requested that the two localities, based on approved plans, especially marine aquaculture plans and marine economic development orientations, need to develop comprehensive solutions to restore marine aquaculture in a more sustainable direction, especially in the current increasingly complex weather conditions.
