On September 10, hundreds of officers, soldiers, relatives, friends and people were present at the hometown of Captain Nguyen Dinh Khiem (in Yen My commune, Yen Mo district, Ninh Binh province) to send the brave soldier to his final resting place.
Attending the funeral, many people expressed their regret and sorrow, unable to hold back their tears because Captain Khiem passed away at such a young age.
Many people (in hamlet 8A, Yen My commune) said that in the locality, Captain Khiem was loved by many people and neighbors. When hearing the news that Captain Khiem sacrificed his life while on duty against storm number 3, the whole village was shocked and saddened.
It is known that Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem was born on November 6, 1997 and enlisted in September 2015. The Senior Lieutenant's family was very poor. To earn money to raise his children, his father worked as a construction worker and his mother worked hard in the fields. Loving his parents, Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem tried hard to study and train with the determination to serve in the army.
The family has 4 children, all of whom are studious and well-behaved. Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem has been an excellent student for many years and passed the entrance exam to the Engineering Officer School. He got married at the end of 2023 and was appointed Captain of Company 3, Battalion 1, Engineering Brigade 513, Military Region 3 about a month ago.
On September 7, while facing storm No. 3, First Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem heroically sacrificed himself when he saw his teammate slipping and a tree was threatening to fall on him, endangering other teammates. He rushed in to help, but the tree fell on him and he fell. His teammates and unit took him to the hospital for emergency treatment, but he did not survive.
With his brave and selfless actions in service, Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem was promoted to Captain and was proposed by the Military Youth Committee to the Central Youth Union to posthumously award the "Brave Youth" Badge - a noble title of the Central Youth Union for Vietnamese youth and children who have brave actions and made outstanding achievements in protecting security, national defense, and social order and safety.
On September 9, the President signed a decision to posthumously award the Third Class Fatherland Protection Medal to Captain Nguyen Dinh Khiem.
