People stretched ropes to save the driver and bus assistant from flood water

THANH TUẤN |

Kon Tum - About 20 locals stretched ropes for the driver and assistant to hold on to and move to shore, before being swept away by the raging flood waters.

On December 29, the People's Committee of Mang But commune, Kon Plong district, said that the authorities and local people had coordinated to rescue two people who were injured while moving a car through a spillway.

Over the past few days, there has been heavy rain in the commune, water from upstream has poured down, causing the 20m long Ko Chat village culvert (on the Ngoc Hoang - Mang But - Tu Mo Rong - Ngoc Linh route) to be deeply flooded, cutting off traffic.

At around 6pm on December 28, a truck carrying goods was moving through the culvert from Kon Plong district to Tu Mo Rong district. While moving through the culvert, it was swept away by the water.

The driver and the bus conductor jumped to the door to call and shout for help from the people, while the flood water was very strong.

About 20 people from Ko Chat village used ropes to pull driver Hoang Ngoc Ly (born in 1995) and assistant driver Le Van Hai (born in 1990, both living in Kon Tum) to shore safely.

Currently, the underground tunnel is still deeply flooded, vehicles cannot move through the tunnel, and traffic is being disrupted.

Ngoc Hoang - Mang But - Tu Mo Rong - Ngoc Linh road connects Kon Plong district through Tu Mo Rong district. During the rainy season, Ko Chat culvert is often flooded, affecting people's lives and safety of life and property.

Local authorities should advise people to limit traffic and travel through underground passages when water levels rise. At the same time, they should allocate funds to repair roads and install traffic signs...
