Hue - A resident in Hue discovered and handed over a rare pangolin to release into the forest.

On February 16, the Forest Protection Department of Huong Thuy Town (Hue City) said that the unit had received a rare Java pangolin (Manis javanica) weighing 1.8 kg in normal health from Mr. Nguyen Xuan Su - an officer of the Ta Trach Lake Exploitation Management Board (Duong Hoa Commune, Huong Thuy Town).

According to Mr. Su, this pangolin suddenly appeared in the operator's premises. Recognizing the importance of wildlife protection, he proactively contacted the Forest Protection Department to hand over the individual with the desire to release him back into the natural environment.

Java pangolin is a species of group IB - an endangered, precious, and rare wild animal according to the provisions of Decree 84/2021/ND-CP. This is a species strictly protected under the CITES Convention to prevent the risk of illegal hunting and trading.

After receiving the pangolin, Huong Thuy Town Forest Protection Department has cared for, raised and completed the procedures according to regulations to soon release the pangolin back to the natural forest environment.
