On August 5, Railway Safety Management Department II, Vietnam Railways Authority, said that functional agencies are investigating a fatal accident on the North-South railway line passing through Da Nang City.
At about 10:50 PM on August 4th, cargo train HH16 running from Quang Ngai to Da Nang, when reaching Km870+950, belonging to Phu Khe village, Tam Xuan commune, the train crew discovered a man standing on the edge of the taluy, within the railway boundary. (According to regulations, when a train is about to pass or at an intersection, pedestrians and vehicles must stop and stand at least 5 meters from the nearest rails to ensure safety).
The train crew immediately honked the horn to warn, and braked urgently but could not avoid the collision. The victim died on the spot.
The deceased was identified as Mr. Chau Ngoc Tri (born in 1980, residing in Vinh An Bac village, Tam Xuan commune).
After the accident, the train crew reported the incident to dispatchers and duty shifts at both stations to coordinate handling. At 11:45 PM on the same day, train HH16 continued its journey.
The cause of the accident is being investigated and clarified by functional agencies.
