In order to serve the travel needs of the people and contribute to reducing traffic congestion in the area, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just approved the policy for the People's Committee of Binh Quoi Ward and the People's Committee of Thu Duc Ward to continue extending the operation of Binh Quoi ferry for a period of 12 months.
In the long term, the city assigned the People's Committees of Binh Quoi and Thu Duc wards to coordinate with the Department of Construction, the Department of Finance, the Department of Planning and Architecture, the Department of Agriculture and Environment and relevant agencies to review planning, land, and construction to guide businesses to complete documents and procedures according to regulations.

Binh Quoi ferry connects from Binh Quoi Street (formerly Thanh Da peninsula, Binh Thanh District) across the Saigon River to Kha Van Can Street (formerly Thu Duc City).
This ferry route is considered an important "exit" to help people travel between Thanh Da - Thu Duc area without having to cross Binh Trieu 1, 2 bridges, contributing to significantly reducing the load on National Highway 13, Dinh Bo Linh and Xo Viet Nghe Tinh streets.
Previously, in July 2024, Binh Quoi ferry had to temporarily suspend operations due to problems in land lease procedures at both ends of the wharf.
This suspension forces people to go around Binh Trieu 1, 2 bridges or other routes, causing the travel distance to be many times longer.
Since the end of August this year, Binh Trieu 1 Bridge has been under construction to raise clearance to ensure waterway traffic standards. This process forced cars to move to Binh Trieu 2 bridge, increasing traffic pressure in the already overloaded area.
According to statistics from Ho Chi Minh City, the Binh Trieu Bridge area is in the group of more than 180 points at high risk of congestion after the merger. The project to raise the clearance of Binh Trieu 1 Bridge is expected to be completed by the end of November.
During the waiting period, restoring Binh Quoi ferry operations is considered an urgent solution, helping people have more options to travel and reduce traffic congestion at the Northeast gateway of the city.
