Recently, Mr. Bui Tran Duc Tho (residing in Mai Chau commune, Phu Tho province) voluntarily handed over a turtle to the Mai Chau Commune Police.
According to Mr. Tho, in 2021, he picked up a turtle when it was young and brought it home to raise because the species could not be identified.
After being propagated and disseminated legal regulations on wildlife protection, he proactively contacted functional agencies to hand them over.

Receiving the turtle individual, Mai Chau Commune Police coordinated with Mai Chau Forest Protection Department to inspect and determined that this was a sa nhân turtle (scientific name Cuora mouhotii), belonging to group IB - endangered, precious and rare forest animal species, strictly prohibited from exploitation and use for commercial purposes.
Through assessment, the turtle individual has good health and is qualified to live in nature. After completing the procedures according to regulations, functional forces released the turtle to a suitable natural forest area in the area.
