On July 23, information from the People's Committee of Duc Nong commune, Quang Ngai province said that two people in the area had just voluntarily handed over a rare pangolin to functional agencies for care and re-release to the natural environment.
Previously, Ms. Y Pieng and Ms. Y Duong (residing in Dak Blai village) while weeding in their family's garden discovered a pangolin hidden in a bamboo bush.
Realizing that this is a rare and precious wild animal, the two people proactively reported to the local authorities for handover in accordance with regulations.
Immediately after receiving the information, the Duc Nong Commune People's Committee coordinated with functional forces to inspect, make a record of receipt and assess the health status of the pangolin individual.
Initial inspection results showed that this individual was still healthy and qualified to be released back into the natural environment.
After completing the procedures according to regulations, the Commune People's Committee coordinated with the Forest Protection Department of Region IV to receive and bring the pangolin individual to Chu Mom Ray National Park for re-release.
According to the People's Committee of Duc Nong commune, pangolins are wild animals on the list of animals strictly protected by law.
Over the past time, the locality has promoted propaganda and dissemination of regulations on wildlife management and protection, and at the same time mobilized people not to hunt, raise, raise, trade, transport or consume illegal forest animal species, contributing to raising awareness of biodiversity conservation.
