Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs about support for victims of canoe sinking in Phu Quoc

The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed its close coordination with Indian agencies to complete the return of the victim's body to India according to the wishes of the family.

On July 23, at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang answered questions about the boat sinking in Phu Quoc that killed many Indian tourists, and Vietnam's support for the families of the victims.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said that on July 11, a tragic incident related to a canoe sinking occurred in Phu Quoc, An Giang province due to bad weather.

According to Ms. Hang, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs immediately coordinated closely with the People's Committee of An Giang province, Phu Quoc special zone and relevant functional agencies, the Indian Embassy in Hanoi, the Indian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City to urgently carry out consular work, citizen protection, handle issues related to Indian citizens, and bring the bodies of the deceased tourists back to India as requested by the families of the victims.

Vietnamese representative agencies in India immediately coordinated closely with the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, functional agencies in local localities and agencies related to the victims, ensuring the process of receiving and handing over the bodies to the families of the victims.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also directed the Vietnamese Embassy in New Delhi and the Vietnamese Consulate General in Mumbai to continue to closely coordinate with the Phu Quoc Special Administrative Region government and relevant agencies in India to have forms of encouragement, sharing, and condolences to the families of the victims at an appropriate time," Ms. Pham Thu Hang said, and sent her deepest condolences to the families of the victims.
