A village has 5 quarries
Recently, people in Ban Cam and Nam Tang villages (Phong Hai commune) have had many opinions related to the activities of stone quarries in the area.
According to local residents, the dust, noise, and vibration caused by blasting affected traffic and labor safety.

On October 19, in Ban Cam village, according to Lao Dong, there are currently about 5 quarries in this village, of which 2 mines are still under construction, the remaining mines still transport old, blasted stone.
Through observation, these quarries are only a few hundred meters apart on the main road about 2km long leading to Ban Cam village, below which are dozens of households living and farming.
The blasting and transportation of stone by these quarries is causing inconvenience to people around the area.
Some households said that on sunny days, the dust and rocks fly everywhere, covering the roofs and trees with white, making daily life and production difficult.
Along with that, the loud explosion of mines, which often occurs, makes young children and the elderly startled and lose sleep.
"We do not object to stone mining, because we know this is an industry that brings revenue to the locality. However, businesses need to fulfill their commitment to environmental protection, limit blasting at noon or evening.
The government should also strengthen supervision so that people can live with peace of mind," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa (Ban Cam village).

Commune commits to periodic inspection
Speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Vu Trung Dung - Chairman of Phong Hai Commune People's Committee informed: Through the dialogues, the authorities have recorded all the reflections of the people and will coordinate with the district's specialized agencies to conduct inspections and assess the level of impact from mining activities.
"We require units to comply with regulations, environmental commitments, and certificates approved by relevant departments. At the same time, businesses increase the frequency of water spraying to reduce dust, arrange reasonable blasting time, and absolutely comply with safety regulations in exploitation, Mr. Dung emphasized.

According to Mr. Dung, in the past, some quarries have been administratively sanctioned for violating environmental regulations, but have now been remedied, exploited within the licensed scope and have a complete blast monitoring book.
In particular, the People's Committee of Lao Cai province fined Luong Ha stone quarry in 2024 more than 730 million VND for 7 violations, the enterprise submitted a dossier to adjust the exploitation boundary.
By September 2025, this unit continued to be fined 65 million VND for violations of occupational safety and hygiene.

Regarding the dumping of stone at the wrong location into the forest land of Luong Ha quarry, the Chairman of Phong Hai Commune People's Committee said that he would re-examine the situation and respond later.
"Previously, some units were punished, but that was a long time ago. We will review to ensure that the mines comply with regulations and do not affect residential areas," the commune leader informed.

According to the People's Committee of Phong Hai commune, the organization of dialogues for the government to listen to and grasp the actual situation, thereby having a basis to propose specific solutions to the superiors.
The commune is committed to strengthening periodic inspections and directing businesses to reduce the number of mine holes in each blast to limit vibrations, dust and noise.
