Hue coastal residents look forward to 260 billion VND seawall

The 260 billion VND landslide prevention embankment in Thuan An (Hue City) is not completed, coastal residents are still worried every time the sea is rough.

In 2024 - 2025, the coast of Thuan An ward (Hue City) was continuously eroded by large waves, the situation of erosion penetrated deep into the mainland, approaching restaurants and coastal works. Sand and large rocks were swept away by waves and thrown into business areas, causing many households to close down for a long time, causing economic damage.

During the tropical depression in mid-September 2026, although it was not a major storm, many coastal businesses still had to proactively collect tables and chairs, move assets to safe places, and even close restaurants in case large waves suddenly rose.

Mr. Tran Dai Chien (38 years old), owner of a coastal restaurant, said that the life and business activities of people here depend a lot on weather developments. As soon as the sea is rough and the waves are big, business households must immediately pack their belongings.

According to Mr. Chien, what people expect most now is that the wave shielding and landslide prevention project will be completed soon.

The low pressure just passed, the sea is now calmer, we are also less worried. But this is just the beginning of the rainy and storm season, there are still many complicated weather spells ahead. The project is under construction, so people expect the shore protection items to be completed soon so that we can feel secure in doing business, not just hearing the news of rough seas and worrying about packing up and closing down" - Mr. Chien shared.

According to records, when the tropical depression affects, the coastal erosion treatment project of Thuan An ward is also directly affected by large waves. Steel piles are closed outside the project to block waves, hold sand and serve water pumping for foundation pit construction. Each large wave crashes in, forming white water columns, overflowing the top of the piles into the construction site area.

The coastal erosion treatment project of Thuan An ward was started on June 20, 2026, with a total investment of 260 billion VND. The project includes a 670m long embankment line, a wave-reducing dyke line and geological pipe welding mines, expected to be completed on December 20, 2027.

Talking to PV of Lao Dong Newspaper, the leader of the Project Management Board for Investment and Construction of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hue City (Investor), said that so far the total implemented volume has reached about 30%. In which, the 670m long embankment line has reached about 58%. The remaining part is expected to be focused on construction, striving to be completed in November. The entire contract volume of the embankment line item is expected to be completed on December 30, 2026. The wave reduction dyke item currently reaches about 20%. The contractor is casting concrete components according to schedule, expected to complete all components in 2026; the remaining part will continue to be constructed in 2027.

Units are focusing forces, taking advantage of favorable weather, urgently deploying tasks of direct significance in protecting the coastline, residential areas and coastal infrastructure" - shared the leader of the Project Management Board.
