Present at Phu Hien village (Hop Thanh commune, My Duc district, Hanoi) on September 15, Lao Dong Newspaper reporters witnessed many houses here still deeply submerged in water. Electricity was out, clean water sources were exhausted, everything was almost completely paralyzed.
Due to the direct impact of the flood, flood water from the upstream of Luong Son and Kim Boi districts of Hoa Binh province poured in, causing Hop Thanh commune and some localities in My Duc, Hanoi to be deeply submerged in water in recent days.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Han (Phu Hien village, Hop Thanh commune) said that in many years, there has never been a time when the flood level was as high as this year. For the past three days, Ms. Han has just stayed at home, looking at the sky, the immense water surrounding the small village.
The impact of flooding has forced many people like her to eat instant noodles every day, saving every precious drop of water with support from authorities.
"My family hasn't had a bite to eat for almost a week. We just hope the water recedes quickly so people can return to their normal lives soon," said Ms. Han.
Not far away, Mr. Pham Cong Khai (Phu Hien village, Hop Thanh commune) was busy carrying bundles of rice to dry in a high area behind his house.
Mr. Khai said that the floodwaters rose right at the time of the rice harvest. Many people had to find dry places to dry their rice, otherwise it would all be spoiled.
"I brought the rice here to dry, saving as much as I can, because my house is completely flooded" - Mr. Khai said.
Just the day before, the yard of the Phu Hien village cultural house was completely dry, people had harvested rice and brought it here to dry. However, just overnight, the rising water level submerged a large part of the people's rice.
According to the reporter, the road to Phu Hien village is currently submerged by muddy water. In the village, many households have had their houses flooded, and all furniture had to be moved to a dry area.
Floods have disrupted the daily life and travel of people here, causing many difficulties.
Speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Hoang Van Hai, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hop Thanh Commune (My Duc District, Hanoi) said that flooding affected more than 700/3,880 households in the commune, of which most households in Phu Hien village were deeply submerged in water.
Currently, the work of supporting essential necessities for people is being urgently implemented by local authorities at all levels.
"We have established working groups to go down to provide relief and help people, pushing boats to each house to provide food sources, especially domestic water and drinking water," said Mr. Hai.
The flood water is receding very slowly and is expected to take a few more days to fully recede.
"The local government has also planned environmental sanitation to ensure the quality of life for people as soon as the water recedes," Mr. Hai added.
